Headache day

Yikes, woke up with a bad headache and decided not to go to office today. took excedrin after breakfast did not help this time. Slept a bit helped, but I slept a good 7 hours last night...

Two possible causes: Sinus - one side of my nose was stuffy when I woke up. or Eyes - they were tired yesterday... I finally decided the 2560 x 1600 resolution on my HP 30" monitor at work was too small for me, I adjust the resolution to 1920x1200 and that made me felt a bit better.

bored#1

1st headache in a while

haven't had a headache since the last doctor's visit (when KC had Mono) but a minor one starting since last night after the Bowling game.

Didn't sleep well, since I woke up with headache coming and going. It feels like a bit of tightness on the upper right side of my head... a bit like muscle sore.

At Bowling game (since that seems to be when the headache start) I ate some fried chicken and shrimp with some typical dipping. and drunk a big cup of Pepsi.

And I suck at Bowling. I bet this is why I got a headache.

[update] Thibault's got some nice photos from the Bowling team outing:

Serenity Prayer

It's a nice prayer, from movie 'Mr. Brooks'

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Thoughts and wishes on Android...

My Android G1 sucks a$$ today. 90% of the time when I tried to do something, it would be busying doing sync in the 'background.' But the whole thing just slowed to a halt, that I feel like I am the background task, deprioritized.

I started to wonder why Android can suck like this. Essentially it's a computer with a 528MHz processor and about 128MB of RAM and some flash drive space (got a 8GB SD card in it). 10 years back, this is probably one of the better computer on the lot, and I remember having a similar system and I could play Grim Fandango, Crusader, Wing Commander 4, Need For Speed 2, and Quake 2 on it. Not too shabby at all.

So why this computer can't handle the current demand now? Touchscreen shouldn't be an issue, it's really just an extra simple channel (IRQ?) for the CPU bus to handle the event. Animation? come on, if I could play all those games, why not on this platform? My guess is that the only thing is probably just the cellular signal, battery handling, and data syncing that could be costing heavier performance issues.

So if the platform can have a terrific way to handle cellular signal, battery, and data syncing while not losing a whole lot of CPU/memory resource, then we can have a much better experience. And perhaps one day, we can play the next Bioshock on Android? I'd love to see that day come.

Religious book v.s. techy book...

Two nights in a row, I had the option to read either 'Head First Java' or 'The Reason for God - Belief in an Age of Skepticism' and both nights I chose to read the latter. Not sure why I do that, perhaps I am feeling a bit guilty that this book has been sitting on my bedside for longer than a year now and I've never read over 100 pages of it (total < 300 pages) Or maybe I am just a bit spiritual?

Talking about merging internal and cloud infrastructures together using OpenVPN.

General blog

haven't post for a while so I should put up some updates... we went through a tough month but finally nobody is sick now. Cyrus is happily back to his child care and growing faster than ever. We were told his height is at 80 percentile, though the weight is at 25 percentile due to the illness he just gone thru. He's much more talkative now and very demanding at times. Seems like he will certainly grow into somebody who knows very well what he wants. Last week as Kristie's breast milk supply started to dwindle, we decided to start a transition plan for Cyrus to change to formula. He refused violently at first, even go without drinking milk for a day. The 3rd day we finally change to another brand and that really helped. He's happily taking 50-60% of formula mixed in now.

What else is new other than the baby? ha, I started to get back to PC gaming again. as incredible as it may sounds, I allocated every Friday night to playing some games. Going through my poor game collections, the oldest game that I haven't played through is Prince of Persia 2 Warrior within from 2004! but I am not crazy about that game much... started from trying to finish Half-life 2 Episode 2 :-) Then I will be onto you, Big daddy in Bioshock (alright alright, I know big sister is coming out in BioShock 2. haven't played any games != haven't been updating myself with game news)

job is going well, so far, I've been able to research and learn quite a bit of programming and technologies stuffs, while my recent promotion gets the paycheck thicker = happy. I have to say I am pretty sick of just doing research all week without any outcome tho. I want to get something out that works!

Anyway, nice time. peace out.

Sick sick sick II

it's been a long month for the family. Since I got since a month ago, baby Cyrus got it from me, and then Kristie got it from the baby, and after a while I recovered a bit, but again catch a slight variance from baby Cyrus. We went to ER 3 times in 3 days two weeks ago, 2 times were for Cyrus hitting a fever @ 104' and once to clear Kristie from the infamous Swine flu...

Anyway, apparently the saga isn't over, and we are not clear from this curse yet... while me and Kristie slowly recovered to almost 100% now, Cyrus was also seem to be doing much better last week... he still cough a bit with mucus and running nose a bit, but he was fine otherwise. Unfortunately, one day after his 9th month checkup (which doctor said he seems like a perfectly healthy 9th month old baby), he spent another weekend with running fever and us pumping him with Tylonol and Moltrin. (and we immediatedly decided to try a different doctor) The previous verdicts from the ER was that one doc said he's got ear infection, the latter said he's got pneumonia (with x-ray). This time, the poor little guy again went through x-ray and also a blood test... now he's said to have Bronchitis and now he's going thru his 3rd round of antibiotic...

I don't believe in any specific god, but I do pray to the spirit that this curse can be over soon, and little Cyrus can go through this without any negative impact to his future health...

Self-doubting...

Three years ago I posted something on this very blog saying that I decided to give up on learning the coding stuffs that's over my head. Three years later I am still trying to figure out what the heck can I really pick up and be good at. Feeling a bit pathetic, but who says being stubborn isn't the important factor to be successful?
Python, Django, Google Appengine... here I come...

Simpson's got new opening score?!

The new Simpsons' got a nice new opening score, and be sure not to miss the ending score on this one too!

Cyrus' 1st day @ Child care

This is the 1st day for Cyrus being in child care. It was completely unplanned due to me catching a cold, but seem to turn out very well. He was very nice to everyone and didn't complaint much. Way to go little big man.

Can I get Imeem+Pandora hybrid?

Imeem is really cool. I get to upload stuffs and share with others (sorta, legally), stream anything, as long as if I can find them, and best of all, the Android app.

But for something I found it hard to actually find a good list of music that fits my taste... the list it comes up with consists of Chinese songs from the 70's and that is before I was borned... and I can't find a way to vote those music down so they won't come to haunt me again. I like the way Pandora makes it easy to do so.

Alas, The perfect music site, where art thou?

Human Nature

watching my 7 month old play for the past week is a interesting experience. He's old enough to play letter blocks but not old enough to manipulate it to build something out of them, so what ends up happening is I would be tempted and build a castle with the blocks and he would destroy it right afterward, he seems to have fun with this.

Hmm. this got me wondering, if it's human nature to destroy things before they know how to build stuffs? In a human development, it seems to be true, since babies aren't really capable of building things and they are well capable of destroying things. But in the scope of the long stream of human history, does it still stand true? Human build up cities and civilizations before wars and other nature means destroyed them. But what has been more visible is also humans' damage to the nature and our planet before we can realize what we have done and start to do something constructive to it.

Perhaps human are still at the toddler stage as tenure of this planet? Our compounded minds are just started to realize our means of destructions and started to learn and figure out how we can do something positive about. Alas, we need to grow faster before it's too late...
